I Want to Provide Care – Tell me how

Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who provide one-on-one caring ministry to people experiencing grief, divorce, loneliness, illness, job loss, relocation, aging, or some other difficult situation. Their relationship each Care Receiver is confidential, but they work with other Stephen Ministers in supervision to ensure that they are providing the best care possible for the Care Receiver.
If you are a good listener, a faithful and compassionate person, can keep confidences and want to help others in need, you would probably enjoy the work of a Stephen Minister.

You will also receive a minimum of 50 hours of training in this structured program, exploring topics such as:

• Listening
• Feelings
• Confidentiality
• Maintaining boundaries
• Crisis theory and practice
• Ministering to people who are experience grief, hospitalization, divorce

Once equipped with the training, you will be prayerfully matched with a care receiver who is going through a stressful time or life difficulty. You would usually meet with this person for one hour per week to listen, care, encourage and pray. You would bring Christ's presence into the person’s life and also experience Christ in the other person. It will be a life-changing experience for both you and your Care Receiver.

If you are interested, contact the Pastor at 843-842-5673 or one of the Stephen Leaders at our church. Also visit the Stephen Ministries Website at the link below. Training sessions are held at various times, and applications for this program are published when a new program will be started. There is a minimum two-year commitment asked, although many Stephen Ministers find themselves renewing their commitment for many years.
