Music at Providence

Providence Presbyterian Church offers a varied, eclectic and inspiring music ministry – incorporating many styles and gifts of Christian music and Providence members.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is a faithful and welcoming family of believers at Providence. It provides music throughout the church year. Singers are encouraged to sing at either the 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. service, although the director reserves the right to call “Super Sundays” on occasions when the choir is singing a more demanding work (a ridiculous request on his part - no more than once a month - that singers try to come to both services). The choir sings throughout the year with a typical four week vacation in the summer months. Special events through the year
include a fall concert of a larger choral work, seasonal cantatas, Christmas and Spring choir parties, and fellowship time between services in the choir room (snacks and the best coffee on campus). Join the choir! Contact Paul for more info.

Soloists and Special Music

soloist

Providence is blessed with a variety of soloists, instrumental players, and small ensembles. Our next big project is finding people who would like to play instruments on hymns in worship at 9 or 11 a.m. (no solos, we promise!). If you have an instrument gathering dust in the closet that you know you really should be playing to the glory of God (no pressure!), contact music director Paul Elgin.

Special Events, Concerts and Sponsorship

Providence also has special days to sing (Men sing Sunday – on Mother’s Day, and Women Sing Sunday – on Father’s Day (get it?)). We also sponsor special concerts and events throughout the year, like the Ascensions Gospel group and our friend from the piano faculty of the University of Louisville, Denine LeBlanc. Denine usually gives a concert at Providence as a “warm up” before her European tours. We’re always looking for people to help us out and sponsor special events. If interested, please call Paul!
