Providence Children's Center is a Christian daycare and preschool operated adjacent to Providence Presbyterian Church. We have been operational since 1994 and have grown from an afterschool program for the Sea Pines Montessori school to a full time daycare and preschool. At this time we currently serve between 65 and 80 area children ages 8 weeks to pre K, depending on whether it's during the school year or summer camp. Our afterschool program serves children in grades K - 5.
The philosophies of our center are simple. We believe in providing love, nurturing and support to both our children and their parents. We believe in leading by example, and strive to model our core values in our every interaction. We have an open door policy and parents visit with teachers in the mornings and evenings at drop off and pick up, updating on relevant events, asking questions, and admiring their children's artwork. Parent participation is also encouraged at center events such as holiday parties, recitals and center outings.
As you will see when you visit our center, perhaps our most important asset is our happy children. Our unique combination of both structured and unstructured play is vital towards our goal of encouraging the development of active, creative and healthy children. As the American Academy of Pediatrics points out, play is so important to optimal child development that it has been recognized by the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights as a right of every child. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Perhaps above all, play is a simple joy that is a cherished part of childhood. Isn't it great that something we enjoy so much is so good for us?
